We are motivated and urged by C.P Huntington. When Huntington was elected to build a shipyard in 1886 to serve the world’s greatest harbor, he determined that it should be known the world over for the quality of its products. In 1916 this business philosophy was distilled by the then shipyard president Homer Ferguson for the so-called Shipyard Monument. This specified in no uncertain terms that there should be no crimping on the product – profit or loss should be minor considerations as long as “Good ships” were the result.
